Product Entry by Catalog
Our Catalog of products offers many major distributors across several of our key industries. Product entry by Catalog is the easiest method of all, and also almost always includes the image for the product, directly from the manufacturer.
To enter a product by Catalog, once you have clicked your New Product button (see how to get there above) you will see the above options for UPC, Manufacturer Number, and Search at the top of the Add Product screen. The only time you will see these options is when creating a new product, so after you have saved your product, the Catalog will no longer be an option. Here are the Catalog search options:
- UPC - This is the Universal Product Code system; the officially registered barcodes made up of a series of usually eight to eleven numeric digits. You can click in this field and scan in a barcode to search the Catalog for that specific product.
- Manufacturer Number - This is usually very similar to the part number you see on an invoice from the manufacturer. You can find more precise numbers by looking at the manufacturer's website. If you have a barcode of the manufacturer number, you can click in this field and scan it to search the Catalog, or you can type it in.
- Search - This option allows you to search by keyword, and the more specific you are, the easier it will be to find your product. For example, if you type in the word 'orange' you will come up with hundreds of results (or more). But if you type in something like 'cascade', you will have a smaller list to look through for your search result. See the example below.
Once you have selected the product you want, you will see many of the data fields for the product already filled out for you. The tabs at the top for Details, Images, Descriptions, and Advanced will show you the different data that has already been entered for the product, as well as the image. You will want to go through the key information and make sure it is in there the way that you want.
Sad to say, but most manufacturers don't put in very detailed descriptions of the products. Such descriptions include key details only. You will want to pay attention to your Descriptions and make sure they reflect the marketing style you wish to present in your online presence.
For detailed information about what you should have in each field for your product, please proceed to the next part of the product setup process on entering products manually.
