You can get to this part of the system by clicking on Website in the blue Admin Toolbar and then clicking Navigation.
Your Navigation is the menu of pages across the top of your website and also in the footer area. You can create pages that appear in the main Navigation menu of your website, either at the top level or as drop-list items. You can also link to a page or a file in your main Navigation.
Create Pages or Links to Pages or Files in Navigation
Your Navigation allows you to create new top-level pages (the ones that are always visible) and drop-list pages that appear when you mouse-over the appropriate Navigation item. These items can be links to pages you have created in Pages, new pages you create from scratch (these pages will automatically be Published as soon as you create them), or custom links to external web pages or files.
If you want your new page to be at the top level of your Navigation, click the New Navigation Item button. If you want your page to be in a drop-list under one of the top level pages already present, click the small arrow to the left of that page name and then click the New Navigation Item button.
Choose one of the following:
If you are linking to a page you have already created (in your Pages area), click the Create Navigation Item button for 1. Existing Web Page and do the following steps:
- Find your page in the list of Web Pages and click the radio button next to its name.
- In the Link Text box, enter the name of your page as you want it to appear in your Navigation menu.
- Click the Create Navigation Item button and proceed to step 5 below.
If you are creating an entirely new page, click the Create New Web Page button for 2. New Web Page and do the following steps:
- In the Link Text box, enter the name of your page as you want it to appear in your Navigation menu.
- Click the Create Navigation Item button and proceed to step 4 below.
If you are linking to a file or to a web page that is off of your site, or if you are linking to a product, class, category, or news module item from one of your system automated pages (the ones that do not show you the little gray Module Toolbars), click the Create Navigation Item button for 3. Custom URL and do the following steps:
- In the URL box enter the full URL for a file or for an external page or for any other page you are linking this way if your website is live.
- If your website is not live yet, paste in everything from the page url that is after the .com (e.g. if your product URL looks like http://www.samplestore.rainadmin.com/shop/gifts/snack-basket.htm, you will highlight and copy /shop/gifts/snack-basket.htm and paste it into the URL box).
- In the Link Text box, enter the name of your page or file link as you want it to appear in your Navigation menu.
- If your link is going to an external web page or if it is linking to a file, check the box for Open Link in New Window. iv) Click the Create Navigation Item button and proceed to step 5 below.
Your new web page will need an SEO Title and SEO Description so that the search engines can find it and give accurate search results. Use the examples provided to create your title and description, and then click Save.
You have created your Navigation item. You may want to go back to Website > Navigation and you can drag and drop the page title bars into whatever order you would like them to be. Remember that to get to your drop list, you need to click the small arrow button next to the appropriate page name.
